On October 20 and 21, France Telecom R&D Beijing, in association with the Research Center for Social Theory of Peking University, has organized a conference on "Mobile Communication and Asian Modernities" at its newly built Innovation Gardens.

The conference addressed the social, cultural, and economic implications of mobile telephony in Asia, with a particular focus on developments in China. The conference presentations focused on the role of mobile communication technologies in reflecting and reframing 'modern' life, as defined particularly by Asian users, in Asian contexts.
